I love writing more than anything, well, except cats. Here's Chloe, who was a scrawny little stray, but she is doing wonderfully well now. She looks like she dipped her nose in a cup of tea, doesn't she? Her owners couldn't be located, so I took her in, and she made the pandemic isolation so much easier--as I know pets did for so many of us.

I was a professor of literature for many years, and research and writing are my passions. As Emily Dickinson said:

            There is no Frigate like a Book

            To take us Lands away . . .

​

The lands I like my readers to be immersed in are the 19th and early 20th centuries - rich cultural periods that helped define the subjects of my biographies.
